(Yes, I’m trying some of that hyperbolic flowery language favored by the Fox Networks of the world. Or else I’m *packaging*. Take your pick…)
While Mr. Wagner continues to protest his inclusion in this merry local media dance we’re playing here & does his best to play the ‘aw, shucks’ card when pressed, I very strongly beg to differ. The guy makes media — even though he doesn’t want that Oregonian article preserved in wood plaque form any time soon. He reports on news every morning on Portland Sucks (raise your hand if you’ve heard of an issue for the very first time while listening to Robert & Sabrina on Portland Sucks each morning at 8 am). He’s building out a whole infrastructure to support local Portland news, information & entertainment — that sounds like a media magnate to me, right? And he’s funding the whole thing out of his own pocket.
Of course, he’s now got a few other “media people” lining up to either say they knew him when and/or are part of the inner circle, attempt to follow in his footsteps, and/or suck up to him in Dyson-esque style.
But he’ll be sitting down with me this week. Yes, me. (That rumor that I have something really incriminating on him? Sheer nonsense…) And we’ll be talking about just how pdx.fm began, where he thinks it can/should go, what he’d like to say to some of those hangers-on, and where he sees the gaps here in the Portland media scene.
Sadly, the show won’t be live — but if you want me to grill skewer lambaste insinuate ask Robert a question, you should either a) add it as a comment to this post (and nowhere else, please), or b) send me an email at betsy@redoingmedia.com.
(And don’t assume that just because he’s providing me a platform — for FREE, no less — that I’m going to go easy on him. For starters, he’s going to have to dial down that whole F-stream a notch or two…)
Do it before midnight tonight. Hell, do it NOW.
Update: Nope, we won’t be able to take questions via phone call during the show itself. Why? We’re pre-taping, that’s why…

I’m curious to know how Mr. Wagner managed to take a 15 year old idea, web-radio, and make it feel important. I’d also like to know how he intends to take on the bigs like Entercom and now Alpha Broadcasting.
Can we call in and ask questions?
where was this photo of robert taken? it’s really hot. he sounds sexy when he’s angry and now I can see he is. is he single? can we have a win-a-date with RW?
boxers or briefs?
Molls: Sorry, there won’t be an opportunity to call in during the show itself. Why? We’re pre-taping to accommodate RobWag’s busy schedule, that’s why….
Selma: You mean you don’t already know the answer to that question? Regular listeners do, I’m sure…
how come sometimes when rw tweets his location he’s not really there?
I think it’s probably neither and he wears banana slings.
or maybe boxers with duckies on them because he loves portland
when is Roberts real birthday? there was a blog post about thanking sabrina and emily for birthday drinks last october, but his FB said last month and now it’s missing and I’m confused. I want to be sure to send him flowers and condoms on the right day. seriously tho – if I guess his correct birthday, can I win a date?
Seriously? No.
aw, shucks. well, maybe next time.
how about when/what’s channel 3?
opinions on marconi’s ‘original, all new, never been done before live podcasting’? how long is that going to last? does anyone give a rat’s ass?
and when is video going to start?
what’s your biggest competition?
Great show and guests Ms. Richter. I was recently introduced to your work with Our PDX while dining with some friends. I like where you’re headed with this program of yours and I adore your uncanny ability to dig right into the cool new media makers around here, even the more reluctant or reclusive ones.
I’d like to know what Roberts formal media training consists of and whether that impacts his style and his reasoning and how it comes together and the ethics involved if any. His endeavor makes it look easy but many of is know that it can be far from that. What’s the secret sauce?
I like where this is going. If not too late I would ask Robert if he’s comfortable in the knowledge that he’s influencing his listeners and possibly their opinions and beliefs.
